El Dorado Hills is located in the beautiful mountains of northeastern Nevada, and directly across I-80 from downtown Carlin, Nevada. Carlin is a tightly-knit community located on the banks of the Humboldt river. The city has a rich history dating back to the late 1840’s, when it was a favored stop for immigrants traveling the California Trail during the Gold Rush period. Carlin was incorporated as a town in 1925, and as a city in 1971. | |
| The Carlin area boasts extensive recreation options including backpacking, hiking, camping, hunting and fishing, horse back riding, and biking. Within the city of Carlin, there is baseball, softball, tennis, basketball, and volleyball, a youth skate park, an equestrian park, and much more. The beauty of Nevada can be seen in nearby areas including the Ruby Mountains, Wildhorse Reservoir, Jarbidge Wilderness Area, Angel Lake, Wilson Reservoir, and Jack Creek. | ||
| Carlin is significant as the gateway to the world's largest gold mines, commonly known as the Carlin Trend. Carlin also has one of the highest median incomes per household in the State of Nevada. With an elevation of approximately 4950 feet, the area has a high desert climate with warm dry summers and a little snow in winter. | ||
